Proper storage prevents structural rust, electrical failure, and mechanical seizing, ensuring that the rides are ready to safely thrill guests when the gates reopen. Treating storage as a proactive maintenance phase rather than a simple pause in operations is the first step toward successful equipment longevity.

Choosing the Ideal Storage LocationThe environment where you store your amusement rides directly impacts how well they survive the off-season. Whenever possible, indoor climate-controlled storage is the gold standard because it completely shields sensitive electronic components, fiberglass seating, and hydraulic systems from freezing temperatures, rain, and UV damage. If indoor space is unavailable, look for a secure, paved outdoor lot with excellent drainage to prevent standing water from rusting the base frames. When storing outdoors, every component must be wrapped in heavy-duty, weather-resistant tarps that are securely tied down to withstand heavy winds and winter storms.

Deep Cleaning and DecontaminationBefore any ride is put away, it must undergo a thorough deep cleaning process. Months of operation accumulate layers of grease, dirt, spilled soda, dropped food, and sweat from thousands of riders. This organic buildup attracts pests like rodents and insects, which can chew through expensive electrical wiring and ruin seat padding. Use high-pressure washers and industrial-grade, non-corrosive detergents to clean every nook and cranny of the structure. Allow every section to dry completely before packing it away, as trapping moisture inside covers or enclosed spaces creates a perfect breeding ground for mold and rust.

Mechanical and Fluid PreservationMechanical systems require special preparation to prevent moving parts from seizing up during months of stillness. Begin by lubricating all bearings, chains, gears, and joints with high-quality, water-resistant grease to seal out moisture. For rides utilizing hydraulic or pneumatic systems, check fluid levels and change filters if necessary.
